Performing flips and grinds will also grant brief speed boosts upon landing which is necessary to both jump some chasms or to outrun the elders you disturb on the mountain with your antics (basically, the no-fun police). You can continually hold it for multiple backflips but make sure you let go or you will not stick that landing. Holding down the X button causes Alto to begin a backflip. Pressing X (on PS4 at least) will make Alto jump. Seems simple, right? To make this simple concept even simpler, there is only one button in play the entire time. While the plot (if you can call it that) is to retrieve your llamas, you really just lead Alto (and other unlockable characters) down procedurally generated mountains avoiding rocks, jumping chasms and, grinding bunting lines/rooftops. Both games are remarkably similar other than the setting: snow versus sand. The Alto Collection is a package of two endless runners that were originally released on mobile phones in 2018.
